Two Days in Jodhpur!

We took the morning bus from Udaipur for our 2nd destination – Jodhpur. We had previously booked the bus online from the website of Rishabh Travels. The bus left Udaipur bus stand at 6am and we were dropped in front of our hotel – Ranbanka Palace in Jodhpur at around 11am. It was a smooth and comfortable journey.

Ranbanka Palace Hotel is a wonderful heritage hotel in Jodhpur. We were se mesmerized by its beauty that we decided to spend the entire day exploring the hotel campus. We kept the Jodhpur city tour for our next day in Jodhpur.

The next day, we woke up early and had a quick breakfast at the hotel. We had already booked a Tuktuk (auto) for the city tour. We had planned to cover Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada, the Jodhpur shoe market and Umaid Bhawan Palace. We had booked the Tuktuk for INR 600 that included the parking at these locations.

Let’s begin one by one !

  1. Mehrangarh Fort– This was our first stop. The view of the fort from the main city looks spectacular. The fort is equally beautiful inside as it is outside. The Sheesh Mahal, Phool Mahal and Rani Mahal were wonderful. The museum had well stocked artifacts like elephant’s howdahs, palanquins, armoury, etc. The most beautiful part was the breathing view from the top. The entire blue city of Jodhpur was visible from there.
  1. Jaswant Thada – This is located close to the fort. It was built by Maharaja Jaswant Singh and it is the cremation ground for the royal family of Marwar. The intricate architecture with white marble was amazing. There is a small garden next to it where I found violet lotus. It is a very peaceful place and is worth a visit.

  1. Umaid Bhawan Palace – The palace looks spectacular but visitors can only access the museum. The other part is the hotel which is managed by Taj group. The palace complex is huge and there is a vintage car collection outside. People generally take pictures there as the entire palace comes in the backdrop. The museum. The palace is built in an Indo-Western architecture, which makes it absolutely different from the other palaces in Rajasthan.

The blue city, Jodhpur, had a lot in store for us and we had a lovely time exploring this beautiful city. Keep an eye on our blog to know more of our travel diaries.
