Two Days in The Pink City – Jaipur!

Sometimes one day in a place gives you more than ten years of life at home. Such is the essence of this blog.
Our trip to the world’s heritage city — Jaipur!!
Jaipur is one of the most beautiful and architecturally modern city of Rajasthan which is enriched with history, culture and heritage.

Our trip to Rajasthan was a beautiful one and we had kept Jaipur as the last city of the entire trip — we wanted to keep the best for the last!❤
Yeh sheher nahi mehfil hai! Such are the vibes of this beautiful city and it’s beautiful people. Welcome to the pink city blog of ours.

We reached Jaipur from Jaisalmer via train in the early hours of the morning. We checked into our hotel Grand Uniara and quickly freshened up to explore the city. We just had two days in hand and plenty of places to explore. We started our Jaipur City tour with City palace Jaipur!

City Palace Jaipur is open from 9:30 am to 5 pm and at night from 7pm to 10pm. We entered as soon as the gates were open. The entry fee was Rs 100 after applying student concession and the museum visit was Rs 500. Thus we entered the magnificent gates of City palace Jaipur– painted in all pink this place has a different charm. City palace is divided into two parts — Chandra Mahal and Mubarak Mahal. Inside City palace there are various sections — museums, artefacts, handicrafts, cafes and others. The walls are intricately decorated with architectural beauties.

After City palace we decided to visit Jantar Mantar! This astronomical observatory is indeed an architectural beauty! Jantar Mantar has the largest sundial in the world attracting tourists from all over. Scientists are also particularly interested in the way this place was formed. I could see a huge flock of students on their school excursion while on a visit to this place.

Next we decided to visit Hawa Mahal which was situated closeby. Hawa Mahal has a beautiful tall architectural palace structure which is adorned with gorgeous sculptures and is absolutely pink in colour. Hawa Mahal is a very picture friendly place where you literally hire photographers to take snaps of you with the Mahal ! It is actually difficult to fit the Red and Pink honeycombed shaped sandstone structure in one single frame — it is that huge!

Next we decided to head to Patrika Gate!!!! Do you exactly see how excited I am to share more about this impeccable beauty. Patrika Gate is closer to Jaipur Airport and is the entry to Jawahar Circle — the biggest circular park with lush greenery and beautiful structures on a traffic signal. How unique is that isn’t it?? If you’re looking to find Rajasthani art, culture, tradition and history all in one place keeping the perplexities of City Life aside then this is the place for it. The evening was all about a trip to the markets of Jaipur. People who know me know my weakness towards shopping. This was my top priority in Jaipur and made me nearly left with no penny. I am lucky to have my forever understanding partner who happily agreed to accompany on this enormous shopping spree! We started with Johri Bazar — the beautiful kundan jewelleries and other priceless gem stones here are absolutely stunning , we both ended up buying a lot of stuffs for our family as gifts. Next were cute little showpieces of elephants, chariots clearly depicting the royalty of the Rajputs. We headed towards Nehru Bazar after this to stock on our collection of Jootis ie. Shoes and also the traditional Rajasthani Bandini — a special type of clothing material wore in lehengas, sarees and salwar suits. We decided to call it a day after this as we were absolutely exhausted.

Next morning we had to wake up early since it was our last day in Jaipur and we had to cover three most important places on our travel iternary. We started with Jal Mahal Jaipur! It is basically a palace situated in the Man Sagar lake which earlier used to have boat rides and gondolas but has stopped now due to its construction. It is supposedly getting converted into a ultra luxurious property.

We then headed towards Amber Fort. Amber Fort is situated about half an hour from the main Jaipur City and the journey to Amber fort is absolutely thrilling as one has to either walk uphill or take an elephant ride and of course there are cab options available. We chose to go with Rajasthan Discovery Tour operators cab which contributed significantly for our entire day trip. Amber was the erstwhile capital of Jaipur and this fort has a beautiful amalgamation of both Rajputana and Mughal culture. The fort is open from 8 am to 5:30 pm and then again in the evenings. The fort has a central Jaleb Chowk courtyard surrounding the Chand pol ( Moon gate) and the Suraj pol ( Sun gate). There are Royal structures all over this fort and it leads into two divisions — Diwan – E- Aam – which is for the common people and the Diwan – E – Khaas – for the special guests of the king. Amber Fort depicts beautifully the life of the royals back then. My special mention goes out to the Sheesh Mahal covered with mirrors this place is a true epitome of the word paradise.

Next we decided to head towards Nahargarh Fort. The word Nahargarh means “abode of tigers”. Situated in the Aravalli hills it is said that the tigers used to roam in these areas freely back then. This was basically built by the King to protect their queens and to give them shelter and also as a secret hideaway during wars. It is said that Nahargarh is designed in such a way that when the king came to pay a visit to one of his queens, the others were unaware of it. Nahargarh is a very picturesque place and of course extremely picture friendly. The journey to this fort is a splendid one among the hills. We had plans for Jaigarh Fort but had to cancel considering the scorching sun.

As we were on our last leg of the trip passing by the streets of Jaipur to reach our hotel I knew why this city is called the pink city of India! Mostly all the houses were coloured in bright pink and oranges making it look like a dreamy city at night. I had my answers to why Jaipur is UNESCO’s World Heritage City and trust me when I say that this place deserves more mention. Jaipur you beauty , see you soon ❤
