Welcoming the New-Normal at AltAir

Covid made us change our lives. Subham and I, we both craved to go out as we were getting claustrophobic in our homes. We needed to find a place that would match perfectly with our needs as a beautiful short trip yet following all the sanitization protocols. So after staying cooped up for 6 months, we finally left for a staycation at Altair!

Altair is a luxury boutique hotel situated in Salt Lake Sector V. The hotel is located in 19-20-21 floor and has personalised working space for individuals. We entered the beautiful property at around 11 am. We were greeted by the staff with a wide smile and proper sanitization protocols were followed. Our temperature check was done and hand sanitizer was provided. We entered our room on the 19th floor and it was very cosy, having a bewildering view of the city and skyline. The room was clean, well sanitised and had all the modern amenities. After checking in we quickly freshened up to take a tour of this place.

We were absolutely excited to see the rooftop. It is beautiful and provides an impeccable view of the city. We headed towards it and came across the beautiful staircase decorated with intricate artwork. The entire hotel has a fine amalgamation of both modern luxury yet the traditional touch. We came across the gym, the rooftop jacuzzi which are two essential parts of the hotel to chill and unwind.

Next we headed towards the rooftop restaurant – Capella, and enjoyed a scrumptious lunch starting with Manhattan Style Fried Chicken, Sri Lankan Spicy Babycorn and Cheese Garlic Bread. The food was very good and the service was prompt. The chicken and babycorn were both crisp and juicy and went well with the Orange and Watermelon Mojito. We also tried the Chicken Tikka Pizza which had a thin and soft crust and tasted amazing. To end our meal, we tried the Chocolate Monte Carlo. It was so good that we finished it within seconds! The food was absolutely delectable and so was the overall hospitality of the staff.

The evening was mostly spent by us leisurely strolling in the property and absolutely getting this “new normal vibe”. We had visited the property on a very auspicious day when Altair decided to reopen their rooftop along with bar. Mostly the evening and night was spent basking in the beauty of the aerial view of my city and the soothing atmosphere at Altair. We wanted to tranquilize for a day and absolutely we got that in Altair. Our dinner consisted of Chef’s Special Kebab Platter consisting of Potato, Paneer, Chicken and Mutton Galawti Kebabs. The kebabs were extremely delicious. For main course, we had Chicken Matka Biryani and Mutton Dry Roast. The biryani was lipsmacking and when paired with the soft boneless mutton chunks, it tasted superb. I absolutely loved this combo.

The next morning was all about waking up early and enjoying the scrumptious breakfast spread! We ordered it in our room and absolutely gorged upon Cheese Omlette and Sunny Side-up with sausages, bread, hash brown, grilled tomato and fresh fruits. We also tried their Aloo Paratha. The food exceeded our expectations. Everything was so fresh and flavourful. It was served hot and we enjoyed the breakfast by the magnificent view of our room.

The chefs and Mr. Ayan Lima have been very pleasant people who absolutely ensured that our stay was flawless and amazing! Kudos to the staff for maintaining that wide smile in such difficult times. While we left Altair only one thought lingered on my mind “Get well soon, Kolkata”! Tough times of course do not last long. To all the people reading this blog we want to tell you that it’s absolutely safe to book a stay in Altair and just enjoy.
