Our trip to Nubra was one of the most enthralling road trips ever! Nubra Valley is the northernmost part of Jammu and Kashmir. Situated about 150 km from Leh, Nubra Valley is known as the Orchard of Ladakh and was originally called Ldumra which meant the valley of flowers. The mighty mountains covered in white sand like texture will give you a different feeling. The mountains in Nubra are literally exclusive. We started from Leh to reach Nubra in the morning and reached in the afternoon.

The entire road was filled with picturesque spots of creeks, waterfalls, rocky streams of water that will just make you stop and stare. Midway through the road we crossed Khardung La which is one of the highest motorable pass in the world. Reaching Khardung La felt like conquering something abstract and it was honestly very cold. The oxygen level here is very less thus a stay of more than 30 mins is not at all advisable. We were here for about 20 mins where we took a lot of photographs around the place and found a hidden treasure! Well it was a frozen waterfall and simply touching it was surreal as we didn’t at all expect seeing snow in August! But well that is the beauty of Ladakh!

We crossed the other half of the journey only to reach Diskit Monastery. This is a beautiful monastery so serene having a huge budhdha statue also known as Maitreya Budhdha in all glory and beauty just standing there as the jewel of the mountains. This gompa also has a temple located in the same area which preserves Tibetan and Mongolian scriptures and cultures intricately.

This place gives a view of the entire Nubra area and it’s a sight to capture in your hearts forever. We were super tired and had to head back to the hotel and call it a day! We stayed at Hotel White Sands in Nubra and had an amazing time. The evening and nights are well two different things at Nubra. In the evening you will love the hues of the sky changing from yellow to pink to light blue and then finally pitch black. The huge pine and conifers literally encircled our hotel area and gave a whole together different vibe to the night. The sky is super clear at night with stars shining all over.

The next day was all about waking up late and asking our driver to show us some offbeat places in Nubra. We did check the bacterian camels but we chose not to ride them as we believe in not torturing these animals just for the sake of our joy ride. We instead decided to walk in the white deserts of Nubra with our very own feet. Honestly it is the only place where you can see both mountains and desert, honestly its pristine. Turtuk is a famous destination and you can visit, we chose not to go for it as we wanted to see some hidden gems.

I’m not naming this place because I don’t know it’s exact location. But this place is the best part of my entire ladakh trip. Surrounded by temples situated amongst the dead end of roads and within forest area this place gives birth to two waterfalls and a highly gushing stream of water that runs throughout the valley.

We just sat here as it was just us and nobody else. We just sat there and hours passed. It was just us, the birds, the water bodies and the mighty mountains watching us. I’d do anything in the world to again catch a glimpse of that view.
In Nubra we basically relaxed and basked in nature’s glory. Personally if you ask me my favourite part of the trip it has to be Nubra anyday!
